COXSACKIE, NY (February 28, 2020) – Hudson Valley Wine Magazine is pleased to announce that Linda Pierro, co-founder and managing editor, was awarded The Phyllis Feder Unity Award by the New York Wine & Grape Foundation at a special awards banquet at the B.E.V. NY Conference held in Henrietta, NY on Wednesday. The award recognizes individuals who have volunteered their time, shown exceptional leadership, and achieved recognized results in building industry cooperation and unity. Pierro was the only nominee from the Hudson Valley to receive a Unity award this year.

For more than a decade, Pierro has been an innovative and collaborative champion of New York State’s wine industry, focused on raising awareness of the Hudson Valley’s wine community through successful consumer initiatives. Since co-founding the Hudson Valley Wine Magazine brand in 2008, and unveiling its new content-rich online platform in 2019, as well as launching its sister publications to highlight specific sectors within the region, Pierro has been a ground-breaking thought leader and advocate for the industry.

Her work as co-founder of the Hudson Valley Cabernet Franc Coalition focuses on establishing Cabernet Franc as the Hudson Valley’s signature varietal through brand development, consumer promotion, and creation of the inaugural Barrel Tasting event last year.

“It’s an honor to be this year’s recipient of the Unity Award,” said Pierro, “because it not only acknowledges our efforts to promote the region through Hudson Valley Wine Magazine and with our industry partners, but it also champions the Hudson Valley’s growers and makers whose achievements have elevated the local wine industry’s reputation and its viability to compete with others in the state. I share this award with them, and with my partner, Robert Bedford, who is equally as committed to our work over the past decade.”

The New York Wine & Grape Foundation created the Unity Awards 30 years ago to honor distinguished contributions to New York’s wine and grape industry. Among the other awards presented at the banquet were those that recognized the outstanding achievements of growers, wineries, distributors, researchers, and retailers hailing from the Finger Lakes and Long Island regions of New York. Pierro’s award was presented by New York Wine & Grape Foundation Board member Kim Wagner, co-owner of Stoutridge Vineyards & Distillery in the Hudson Valley.
