HUDSON VALLEY WINE MAGAZINE HOSTS CATSKILL’S AUGUST SECOND SATURDAY STROLL

A special wine tasting event, entitled “A Taste of Summer” celebrated the launch of the premier issue of Hudson Valley Wine magazine, published by Flint Mine Press, on August 9. It was a new addition to Catskill's line-up of events for Second Saturday Strolls when once a month, shops, restaurants and galleries are open late as Main Street welcomes hundreds of visitors downtown. The wine tasting event took place on a beautiful clear evening from 6-9 pm under three festive tents on the corner of Church and Main Streets, Catskill. The select wine tasting welcomed wineries representing six of the counties in the Hudson Valley. A special thanks to all of the participating wineries including Silver Stream Vineyards (Orange), Bashakill Winery (Sullivan), Benmarl Winery (Ulster), Cascade Mountain Winery (Dutchess), Hudson-Chatham Winery (Columbia), Brookview Station Winery (Rensselaer) and to local Catskill breadmaker River Street Bakery, Story Farm for their fresh fruit and produce, and the Dancing Lamb, who brought their homemade cheeses. It was a successful night for all involved, with over 200 attendees turning out. The purpose of the event was to introduce local residents to the wines that are produced here in the Hudson Valley, and educate them about the wineries that exist – some as close as 30 minutes away from Catskill. Folks also had the opportunity to meet the winemakers one-on-one. Remarked Ken Lifshitz of Silver Stream, “From the conversations I had with some of the attendees, I got the feeling people were genuinely interested in learning about Hudson Valley wines, and now that they know where we’re located, they’ll come and visit.” Over 100 magazines were distributed during the event by the magazine’s editors who personally greeted the mainly Greene County attendees. The event was coordinated by Linda Pierro, Managing Editor of Hudson Valley Wine magazine, Second Saturday Stroll Committee coordinator Tina Gagliardy of Mahalo Gift Shop, and Linda Overbaugh, President of the Heart of Catskill Association (HOCA). We look forward to another successful event same time next year!
