WELCOME

New decades salute new beginnings, and this year is already off to a great start with many firsts happening here in the Hudson Valley. At Hudson Valley Wine Magazine we’re celebrating a few of our own firsts, beginning with the premiere of our first-ever wine label competition, “The Face of Hudson Valley Wine.” The competition is currently underway and industry professionals will be judging the winners, but you’ll also have an opportunity to vote for a “People’s Choice” at the annual “Bounty of the Hudson” in July.

In this issue of Hudson Valley Wine Magazine we also have our first guest at the “Convivial Table”. Laura Pensiero of Gigi Hudson Valley has paired a savory springtime dish with one of the Hudson Valley’s wine staples, Chardonnay. Another first – our listing of some select neighborhood farm markets that offer local wine. And for the first time, Hudson Valley Wine Magazine is partnering with the Dorsky Museum to present Hudson Valley dessert wines at its “Fine Wine + Fine Art” auction on June 12. You can take a sneak peek at the auction’s lots and reserve tickets on our website (www.hvwinemag.com). Be sure to join us at what promises to be an exciting event.

Around the region, there are other reasons to cheer. For the first time in many years, we welcome a new Trail to the Hudson Valley wine region. Joining the Shawangunk and the Dutchess Wine Trails, we now have the hand-crafted and award-winning offerings of the Hudson-Berkshire Experience. We salute Brookview Station Winery and Goold Orchards on its first 100 years of family farming, and welcome some new wineries to the region, and to the magazine.

New contests, new events, new wineries, new features here and on our website . . . the Spring issue of Hudson Valley Wine Magazine is sure to give you one more reason to celebrate this decade’s start!

Here’s to 2010!
